Texas Roadhouse Rolls

Texas Roadhouse is one of our favorite places to eat, and part of the reason we love it so much is because they have these amazing dinner rolls. They’re soft and slightly sweet, and served with some fabulous cinnamon butter. Brad and I have been known to go through 2 or 3 baskets of rolls while we’re there, because we just can’t stop eating them. What can I say? We’re carbaholics 😉

When I came across a copycat recipe for their famous rolls, I knew I had to give it a try. The rolls turned out pretty similar, but not quite a match. Regardless, they are very tasty rolls, and the sugar and honey make the rolls slightly sweet. They are very reminiscent of my all time favorite carb indulgence – honey yeast rolls.

Texas Roadhouse Rolls
Yields: 2-3 dozen rolls

Ingredients:
1 1/4 teaspoons dry active yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons of melted butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup honey
4-5 cups all-purpose flour
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Proof the yeast in the warm water with a teaspoon of sugar. Scald the milk, the cool to lukewarm.

Add the yeast, sugar, honey and about half of the flour until the dough is the consistency of pancake batter. Beat throughly, and let stand until the mixture is light and foamy.

Add the melted butter, egg and salt, and combine until well mixed. Add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. The dough should be smooth and not sticky. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in bulk.

Punch down the dough, then turn over onto a floured surface. Shape the dough into a long roll, then use a sharp knife to cut into squares (approx 3 inches by 3 inches). Let rest for 10 minutes.

Transfer the rolls to a greased baking sheet. Let the rolls rise again until doubled.

Bake at 375 for 10 minutes, reduce the temperature to 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes more. Cool on a wire rack.

*To make their famous cinnamon butter, combine 1 stick softened butter with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
