Peanut Butter Reindeer Cookies

Everyone has their favorite Christmas cookies that they make year after year. For many people, peanut butter blossoms are at the top of that list. Are you looking to shake up the routine a bit? You can get the same taste as peanut butter blossoms, but in much cuter form with these little reindeer. Aren’t they precious? The antlers are made from pretzels, the nose from a red M&M, and the eyes from two mini chocolate chips. These would be so much fun to make with kids as well!

Peanut Butter Reindeer Cookies
Yields: 48 cookies

1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1.5 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Granulated sugar
48 red M&M’s
96 mini chocolate chips
Pretzels, broken into antler shapes

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Break the pretzels into antler-like shapes and set aside.

Beat butter and peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture.

Break the dough in 48 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, and roll into granulated sugar. Place the dough on a baking sheet, and bake for 8-10 minutes until slightly cracked on top, and browned on the bottom.

Remove from the oven, and while the cookies are still hot, gently press an M&M and two chocolate chips into the cookie. Use a paring knife to make a small slit in the top of the cookie, then gently press the pretzel antlers into the cookie. Allow them to cool completely before storing.

(If you want to make your reindeer more sturdy, melt some chocolate chips, dip the bottom of the antlers into the chocolate, then press into the cookie. This will keep the antlers from falling out).
